Privacy Statement

Introduction

Personal privacy has always been a serious matter, and never more so than on the Internet. We care a great deal about your privacy when using our web site, and so we wish to clearly state how we collect, store and use your personal information.

When you register with us, you are asked to supply a suitable E-Mail Address and Password, together with various identity, contact and location details. Dealers and Traders may also be asked for further trading details. We will automatically create a unique User ID for your account, which will be used to identify, to all visitors, any adverts and contributions from you whilst using this site. Your Password is a secure piece of information, and is stored only in an encrypted form on our database. You are responsible for protecting your password from others, and we advise you not to give this password to anyone else. Registration costs nothing, so let anyone else register their own E-Mail Address and Password, don’t let them use yours. Your E-Mail Address, and other contact details, are used by us only for administrative purposes, unless you opt to receive certain communications from us, or other selected third parties. Your personal identity and contact details will not be published by us, or supplied to any other site visitor, or to any third party, without your prior permission, or implied permission by way of a contact request or auction bid.

Dealers who register for a special Dealer Account will have their business details and contact information published on the web site. This information can me modified by the Dealer, and is the Dealer's sole responsibility to maintain.

Submitted Content

The content of this web site is largely made up of contributed advertisements, reviews, articles and opinions. Any such information included in these submissions may be displayed on the web site, subject to potential editing for accuracy, quality and appropriateness, where reasonably possible.

Advertising

In order to support the financial costs of running such a web site, we may display advertisements for related third-party companies. We will always strive to ensure that all such advertising is suitable and appropriate to our site content and visitors. Some of the businesses which advertise on our web sites may store minimal information about you, usually in a cookie on your computer. This information will normally only consist of such details as your browser version, IP address, and the fact that you clicked through to their site from ours.

Cookies, Javascript and IP Addresses

There is a great deal of legitimate concern, and an equal amount of misinformation, about Internet security. We (and our advertisers) use some techniques in presenting and operating our web sites that have occasionally been raised as issues with regard to this security. As we anticipate many of our visitors being non-technical in background, we would like to take this opportunity to offer some advice and explanation.

Cookies are a means of storing small amounts of information on your computer, which can later be used to speed up, or customise, your subsequent visits to these same web sites. We may use cookies, for example, to optionally store your postcode on your computer, so that you may search more rapidly on return visits. Our advertisers will often use cookies to record that you visited them via our web site, to better track the effectiveness of their advertising. It is important to note, for your own peace of mind, that cookies DO NOT allow access to any other information on your computer.

Javascript is a language that is embedded within the normal source code of a web page, and is run by your Internet browser software, usually to trigger and control visual effects, such as graphics changing as the mouse moves over them, or menus changing dynamically according to a selected option. As with cookies, Javascript (as distinct from Java), cannot normally access any other information on your computer. As Javascript is a technology that has been subject to some security abuse, many Internet users now block its use, and so we have minimised its use as far as possible.

Your IP Address (your physical address on the Internet) is one of several pieces of information passed to any web site whenever you request a page. Others include your browser software name and version, and the address of the last page you visited. Most home Internet users actually use a different IP address each time they connect to the Internet (it is allocated by your service provider when you connect), but people are often concerned that these addresses will allow their browsing habits to be recorded by a third party (as they often are), and that recording their IP address makes it easier for disreputable persons or organisations to gain access to their personal information.

Whilst recording your IP address is actually likely to have little benefit to those seeking illegal access to your machine, we strongly recommend that all Internet users, whether corporate or private, invest in some level of protection against malicious code on the Internet. There are many reasonably-priced (even some free) packages that offer both virus protection and Internet hacking protection (firewalls). Don’t risk corruption or theft of your personal data for the sake of a little cash! If you require further information and advice on this matter, please send an e-mail to webmaster@ginpalace.com with your questions.

UK Data Protection Legislation

This legislation governs all aspects of the collection, storage and usage of personal information relating to individuals, and is designed to protect your privacy. We uphold the advice and guidelines offered by this legislation. If you have any questions about your privacy and the law, then we advise you to visit the government’s Data Protection web site, at http://www.dataprotection.gov.uk/, or send an e-mail to webmaster@buymycar.co.uk with your questions.
